Production & Post-Production Work
No Son of Mine Scene 6
This scene was my first project in Editing & Post-Production at UW-Madison. This project provided me with my first in-depth look at what can be done through editing. In this scene, the main character of the film, Andy, arrives home for the first time in two years to greet one of his brothers, Tom. The tension of the scene comes from Andy's uncertainty of how Tom will react to seeing him again. Andy's other brother, Paul, is also present in the scene as the person who brought Andy back home. While this scene is not my best work, it does show how far I have come as an editor. It holds a special place in my heart as the first scene that really got me to fall in love with the process of editing.
Jalen's Turtles Scene 10
This is a later project from my time in Editing and Post-Production at UW-Madison. The purpose of this assignment was to learn to heighten tension through editing choices. In this scene, Jackson talks to his late brother's widow, Lilliana, The tension in this scene, and in the film as a whole, comes from the feelings that Jackson and Lilliana have for each other and the grief they both feel over their recent loss. This project was a lot of fun to work on, but was also very educational as it taught me to be more mindful of where I cut and what takes create the impact that I want.
He's Fine
A short film created as my final project in Introduction to Media Production, my first production class. After writing the script (which can be read here), I recruited a few friends to act and assist me with the production of the film. We shot the film and I later edited it into this completed project. This process really taught me how much work is put into any film at every stage of production. Looking back at the project, there are things that I wish I would have done differently, but the project gave me a good introduction into the various aspects of production and post-production and was a lot of fun to complete at every stage.
Surrendering the Selfish: a Sacrificial Film Festival
I created this trailer for my Race & Ethnicity class for a group project. For the project, I and four other students needed to choose one independent film directed by a woman of color and create a film festival that includes all five films unified under one theme. This trailer is for that proposed film festival. I chose to create a trailer that highlights the theme rather than focusing on the plots of each individual film. I felt that this created a more cohesive feel for the festival. It was a lot of fun to work on, but it was also very demanding as I needed to find a way to bring such different films together. There were also some technical difficulties in cutting together the trailer due to the background music in different clips.
Spotlight Narrative Scene Recreation
Another project from Introduction to Media Production. With a partner, I was assigned to recreate a scene from the film Spotlight. We worked together to shoot and edit the scene to be as similar to the original as possible. This project allowed me to strengthen my collaborative skills and try to mimic a different style of film-making than my own. This project proved to be a good exercise in collaboration and style in those regards.
